Sam C. Roberts is a UK-based composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music moves between ambient sound, avant-garde composition and progressive jazz. Working primarily with bass guitar, keyboards, and electronics, he creates immersive, textural works that explore the intersections of melody, noise and narrative.
His compositions bridge scored and improvised forms, investigating the space between structure and intuition. From meditative soundscapes to dissonant narrative collages, his music reflects an ongoing curiosity about perception, emotion, and the evolving role of the electric bass. Alongside his solo and compositional work, he performs regularly as a bassist with a range of contemporary, jazz, and experimental artists, bringing his sound to a range of collaborative projects.
Recent performances and exhibitions include appearances at MUSLAB (Guayaquil, Ecuador), Radiophrenia (Glasgow, UK), Audiograft Festival (Oxford, UK), RAMA Festival (Aarhus, Denmark), Adelaide Festival (Australia), The Bath Fringe (UK) and numerous other venues and festivals across the UK and Europe.
Sam studied music at Nottingham University and composition at Birmingham University before completing his PhD, A Portfolio of Compositions Expanding the Role of the Electric Bass in Contemporary Western Art Music, at Oxford Brookes University under the supervision of Paul Whitty in 2014.
